Northern Rail is owned by DfT OLR Holdings Limited (DOHL). Northern Rail plays an essential role in the north of England by connecting tens of thousands of people to work, leisure, and education. The Northern Rail is one of the largest train operators based in England.

Here at Helmsman we manufactured and installed 187 two-compartment Z Locker,  to accommodate 374 people. As requested by the client for three sets of changing rooms at Newton Heath Depot between the male, female, and manager changing rooms.

Z Lockers are a perfect space-optimizing locker design, they are also small footprints, however, maximize internal spaces. As one of the UK’s leading locker manufacturers, we also provide the project with Bespoke Z Locker designs as they were requested to be 1775mm high, 300mm wide, and 450mm deep which is above our standard size.

The lockers were powder coated in the color ‘Ice’ for the main body, while the doors were powder coated in ‘Blue grey’. The frame surrounding the custom Z Lockers was selected to be in a silver-grey shade. In addition, the clients requested a wall island bench seating in the length of 1000mm for the changing rooms. The desired shade for the seating was ‘Ash hardwood’. To ensure the staff’s peace of mind, Camlocks with 2 sets of keys were utilized, offering added security for their personal belongings.
