Here at Helmsman, we value our customers and the performance of our products, we offer our clients after-sales service. This includes maintenance to replacements of a variety of parts such as locks, keys, locker doors as well as parts for cubicles. We can assist with everything from replacement doors, regardless of whether they are fabricated by us or another manufacturer, to a complete refurbishment.

Our team recently completed the installation of laminate lockers and benches at a modern office facility at Clarendon Road. The installation was successfully completed, fulfilling the client’s durability and aesthetic appeal requirements. However soon after the installation, the clients had an interest in upgrading from the standard camlock to the Lowe & Fletcher Nimbus lock to enhance the security features of the lockers.

Nimbus locks are a fantastic choice for locks as they are becoming more popular due to their convenience of the users not requiring using a physical key, as well as reducing the chances of misplacing the key. With digital locks, clients can have the codes to be set up for daily use, the codes are changed by the end of the day, or alternatively a single code for all time for the usage of the lockers.

North City Operation Depot is a dedicated staff-only depot facility that will comprise an office and welfare building with briefing rooms, training rooms, office accommodation, a serviced canteen, locker rooms, shower facilities, laundry facilities and a drying room. The depot is to provide high-quality facilities to enable staff to operate more safely, and efficiently, and essentially so the City Council meets its climate action targets, based in Ballymun, Dublin.

The client requested for leisure lockers with rolled carcasses which help with keeping the lockers dust-free, with the measurements to be 1450mm high, 450mm wide, and 500mm deep with the colour mixed between Fundermax and Poleyrey. The colours are mixed with wood effect and beige laminate. Within the lockers they decided to have shelves and internal dividers. Additionally in changing rooms they requested shelves, mirrors, and drying racks which are 600mm deep, 2450mm long, and 2000mm high powder coated in ‘Ice’.

Within the leisure lockers they decided to go with KitLock KL1200 which can keep the staff belongings secure within the lockers. The seat stands were cladded with beige laminate, additionally having seat slats made with Fundermax wood effect.

It was great working with Purcell Construction LTD on the project and wish North City Operation Depot much success in the future.

Felixstowe Leisure Centre Lockers

Project Overview

The Service Department at Helmsman have been hard at work at Felixstowe Leisure Centre. The changing rooms at Felixstowe Leisure Centre were kitted out with Helmsman’s lockers many years ago, and whilst the existing lockers and cubicles had lasted a long time, they were tired and generally needed refreshing.

The locker bodies were still great quality, so we manufactured and installed new doors, with new locks and numbering, and supplied wrist straps for the keys. The lockers were a fairly old design, that we don’t often have requested anymore, however as we provide the full package at Helmsman, we can manufacture most bespoke options, including replacements for lockers from other manufacturers. Our team manufactured brand new laminate locker doors with matching cubicle doors and facias for this service project. We used BioCarbon’s Carbon Neutral laminate in colour “Graphite” and Abet Laminate in colour “Yellow Pop” to refresh the changing rooms with a splash of colour, completely transforming the area from the white and blue theme that existed before. The locker doors are complete with brand new numbering and Lowe and Fletcher cam locks with wrist straps for the keys. These wrist straps are a great addition for lockers in leisure centres, providing the flexibility for users to wear their key whilst they use the facilities.

It was interesting for the team to work with an older design of Helmsman locker, and with the refresh of the lockers and cubicles, the changing rooms at Felixstowe Leisure Centre look brand new again. We’re sure that the updated lockers and cubicles will stand the test of time, but if the leisure centre decide to make another update to their theme, or repair some wear and tear, our service team will be here and happy to help.

Riverside lockers project

Project Overview

Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter is run by Exeter Leisure and boasts a Gym, Swimming Pool, Health Suite, Sports Hall, Squash Courts and more. Following Helmsman’s work with Exeter City Council on the changing rooms at St Sidwell’s Point Leisure Centre, we were asked to return to Exeter for some repair work at the Riverside Leisure Centre.

Whilst Helmsman had not fitted the original lockers and locks, our service department are equipped to help with repairs and replacements for lockers and other products provided and/or fitted by other manufacturers. The Riverside Leisure Centre lockers had a number of faulty digital locks, and so we recommended a new lock that would stand the test of time.

Our team removed 290 doors and re-drilled to fix the new Ojmar OTS Advanced RFID locks. The existing doors with new locks were then re-fixed to the lockers. The new locks allow users to open or close lockers by simply pressing a proximity media: card, bracelet or Wellness® key against the doorknob. With a high battery life and vandal proof design, this lock is the perfect choice for a leisure centre changing rooms.

It was great to be invited back by Exeter City Council and highlights the high quality of work Helmsman provided at St Sidwell’s Point. We look forward to working alongside the team at Exeter City Council again in the future.
