The Pyramids Centre

Project Overview

The Pyramids Centre in Portsmouth has had a new lease of life with a £2.5m makeover. The ageing facility is now a modern leisure complex offering a fun attraction to the local families. The new facilities include a state-of-the-art gym, trampoline, and soft play park.

Helmsman was sub-contracted to supply the lockers and cubicles package providing a turnkey solution to create a modern and sharp changing room area with a comfortable feel.

For the Pyramids Centre leisure project we manufactured, delivered, and installed modern laminate lockers of 3 and 5 doors. They are heavy duty and suitable for a wet environment. A row of three-compartment lockers have an integrated cantilever seat stand matching the Abet Walnut (616) laminate lockers and cubicles. The integrated seat stand on these lockers is a great space-saving solution and is perfect for this area.

The front line cubicle range fitted the requirements for the toilet and shower cubicles, installed alongside the lockers. The Walnut laminate runs throughout these changing rooms as one of the dominant colours. The cubicle partitions are in Abet Light Grey (478) to separate each cubicle and bring light into the space to complement the rest of the interior.

The vanity units and timber integrated plumbing system (IPS) panels are also manufactured from the matching laminate. The IPS in the toilet cubicles are the same colour as the partitions, giving a natural flow throughout. The wall to floor benches and free-standing benches are in Walnut laminate colour as laminate slats are perfect and protected in the wet areas.

Most importantly Helmsman has a dedicated and experienced in-house design team supported by its on-site factory. From the outset, we bring a combination of skills and creativity to influence our clients’ decision-making to ensure that concepts turn into reality. From start to finish, we are committed to providing high standards and exceeding customer expectations.

Looking back on a leisure centre project

Looking Back on the Dairy Hall Leisure Centre Project

Looking Back on the Dairy Hall Leisure Centre Project

Dairy Hall leisure centre in Northern Ireland opened its doors back in 2018. Helmsman had the opportunity to work closely with Heron Bros contractors on this project to supply, deliver and install both glass and leisure lockers. The facilities promote links between external and internal areas to promote cross usage and opportunities for external ‘pop-up’ events. This centre has something for everyone. The modern indoor and outdoor leisure facilities including a fitness suite, swimming with children’s splash zone, a high-quality spa, an indoor sports hall, an outdoor covered pitch, an outdoor adventure playground, a wheel park for skateboarding, BMX and other wheeled activities and also a Mountain Biking provision.

The site maximises the potential for any future expansion, including the green space, which was also carefully considered. The uses of modern construction methods also ensure the maintenance and running costs of the site are minimal.

Looking back at this leisure centre project, both dry and wet areas were supplied, delivered and installed with lockers for the gym, spa and swimming facilities. The leisure glass lockers came in one, two and three compartments with silk-blue doors. These lockers were fully cladded on stands for easy upkeep. The changing rooms have motion lighting, which set the mood for the luxurious space with an added appeal to the overall look.

Other changing areas have several leisure lockers. We manufactured these from Formica laminate colour range in a mixture of tropical greens, violets and blues. Bodies were made from aluminium, complete with radiused internal corners to suit wet environments. Helmsman offers a complete package for leisure projects, including cubicles, benches, IPS duct panels and vanities.

This 30 million pound leisure project was one of the firsts for Helmsman. The unique and luxury style has provided a place for everyone and allows them to respond to ever-changing demand.

Three Years On…

We are reminiscing the Down Leisure Centre, this high-quality, luxurious project in Northern Ireland was a great success. To this day, this project is still one of the most atmospheric, where it sticks in your memory and your feeling. The feeling of freshness and nature showcases earth and life into the changing rooms.

The mixture of the lime green glass lockers and the walnut laminate leisure lockers brings the outside in, and the natural clear glass cubicles keep the balance in the colour scheme. Down leisure centre continues to enhance customer experience giving that ‘feel-good’ factor.

Paul Maginn, the main contractor says “Downpatrick Leisure Centre was a bespoke project for Felix O’Hare which included the installation of several high specification products. They delivered a good quality project in line with the specification requirements”. It has been great to build a new relationship, which has continued blossoming. Helmsman continues to work by these high standards providing high-quality products.

Project Overview

We are delighted to have been part of this refurbishment at Kendal Leisure Centre in Cumbria. It has fantastic gym facilities, a 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool and indoor sports hall. The centre also includes studios, conference suites and a 900 seat theatre and arts venue.

Our installation team started this project by fitting our brand of the Front Line changing room cubicles. They fitted the cubicles with inward opening doors. Next benches were fitted inside the cubicles at either side which provides a seat whilst changing. Thereafter, the Frontline toilet cubicles, shower cubicles, family changing areas, baby and disability changing areas were completed. The changing room cubicles were supplied with anti-peep rails. Anti-peeps rails are physical barriers fitted at the top of the cubicles. These are used to prevent heads from peering over the top of one cubicle to the next. In other words, they provide additional privacy for the users whilst changing.

Our leisure lockers in a range of two doors and three doors were placed and bolted together. These are lockers and are ideal for use in swimming pool areas. The lockers were fitted with secure combination locks. These locks are popular for lockers storing mobile phones and other valuables. Grey and lime green colours were used throughout the entire changing room. When all the furniture was fitted, including the vanity shelves the changing rooms looked fantastic.

We are proud to have been involved with this fantastic Leisure Centre in Downpatrick.  The lockers and cubicles designed by Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects incorporate many elements of atmospherics. The colour green has given feelings of freshness and nature.  Whilst the colour brown in the walnut laminate doors relates to the earth and life. When these colours are combined they are effectively bringing the outside in. Finally, the LED lighting is positioned in the changing rooms in a way that reflects off our high spec glass lockers and cubicles.

We supplied leisure lockers with walnut Formica doors. These are located beside the luscious lime coloured glass lockers and compliment each other beautifully. We fitted matching vanity shelving and GRP bench seating. All these textures and colours engage the senses and uplift the customer giving them the feel-good factor.

Supplied in a clear interlayer and panel glass, the glass shower and toilet cubicles complete the overall look of the changing rooms. This project oozes luxury and quality on all fronts.
